I have been with Holy Family as a member of the Hospitality Team since the opening of the parish.
I also helped to establish the first Holy Family Welcoming Committee. Cathy and I were the first Chair-couple for the Welcoming Ministry and served there for many years.
How did you first become involved in volunteering at Holy Family?
When the parish was initially formed both Cathy and I decided we could help with Hospitality. We like working behind the scenes and making something happen for others.
What do you enjoy most about volunteering?
I enjoy seeing people leave after mass with a smile on their face and if Hospitality had something to do with that smile, that makes me smile also.
How do you spend your time when you are not involved at Holy Family?
I am an Instructor for Northern Illinois University in the Athletic Training Program, Grandchildren, and Gardening and a variety other Challenges keep me busy.
What would you say to someone who is thinking about volunteering?
Volunteering is all about helping out to complete a task. I have always been involved with people and enjoy making a difference in another person’s life. No matter how small or large the task, the result is usually better than the beginning. I am hardly sorry for becoming involved in any of my opportunities that I have participated in over the years.
I would also like to share that….
My children and my grandchildren are the best. Next are the NIU Huskies, followed by my fellow professionals in the profession of Athletic Training. My best vacation was last fall when the entire family went to Disney World for Halloween! I love to read Tom Clancy and Malcom Gladwell books.
