Spirit Camp is just around the corner, this year we have over 300 campers and we are very excited!!!
Spirit Camp is an outreach to our young parishioners and provides our youngest campers an opportunity to reach out to those who are in need -this year they will reach out to their peers in Africa. It is very unique this year because our campers will connect directly with the children from Divine Mercy School in Nairobi, Kenya.
In 2008, Fr. Brian Kerr of the Missionaries of the Poor founded the Divine Mercy School Program to assist poor children suffering from the famine devastating East Africa and the slum community of Ruai Chokaa, Nairobi. The first missionary aim was simple to provide basic meals to the poorest neediest children who had nothing to eat, but then the mini-school was started in order to also provide the children a future through education and evangelization.
Located in the fastest growing slum community in East Nairobi, Divine Mercy school freely educates and serves 120 children in 4 classes ranging from ages 3 to 7. These children come from the poorest families, and many of them have lost their fathers or sometimes both parents. Most parents are unable to provide their children with even one basic meal per day or to pay to send them to schools. Divine Mercy school is therefore a ray of great hope for God’s little children, who would have no access to proper food, education or health assistance.
Please be the light of hope in their lives. The Missionary Brothers are very grateful for all your help and they offer daily prayers for the supporters and their families. May God Bless you for your great kindness!
Our campers will have an opportunity to help purchase for a child in Kenya either backpack, shoes, socks, uniform, school supplies or food. We are also hoping to raise funds to buy the new blackboards for each classroom.
100% of your donation will go directly towards the school and children.
Marta Robak, from the Family Faith Office, will personally be going to Kenya right after spirit camp is over to work with the missionary Brothers and the amazing children who are poor but joyful and very grateful. This will be her 26th mission trip over the past 10 years and she can’t wait to be with all those beautiful children, teachers and Brothers once again to serve, to give hope, and to love.
