Description

The Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People  is a comprehensive set of procedures established by the USCCB in June 2002 for addressing allegations of sexual abuse of minors by Catholic clergy. The Charter also includes guidelines for reconciliation, healing, accountability, and prevention of future acts of abuse.

Virtus Training
Virtus is a program that strives to promote awareness and prevention of child sexual abuse. Every catechist and volunteer working with children and teens is required to complete a three hour training session. After attending the training your Virtus account will be activated by the Office for the Protection of Children and you’ll be assigned monthly training bulletins as part of ongoing education and awareness on how to protect children. Check the Virtus website for other locations offering the training.

Archdiocese of Chicago Background Check

Every catechist and volunteer working with children and teens must agree to complete an online national background check. Authorization for this national background check is requested when a person registers for a Virtus class.
A State of Illinois Department of Children and Family Services CANTS (Child Abuse & Neglect Tracking System) background check is also required every year for all catechists and volunteers.   Please click here for the DCFS CANTS form.  Return this form to Jean Swenson, Site Administrator at Holy Family, so that we may keep a copy on file for you – she will forward to IL – DCFS.

Archdiocese of Chicago, Code of Conduct
