A Message from Fr. Terry

Sacrificial Giving

For nearly 35 years, Holy Family Catholic Community has benefited from the generosity and sacrifice of our parishioners. We have a proud legacy. We now have the opportunity to continue this proud legacy into the future through sacrificial giving to our capital campaign.

Giving is not a zero-sum game. We are not therefore facing the decision between, say, spending money on the church or on the wider community. Rather, giving is additive and generative. The more we give, the more others join us in giving. The more generous we are here in building our community, the more generous we become in the wider community. The initiatives we are hoping to achieve in Providing For Our Family’s Future, like the first gifts to our church, will make Holy Family even more generous than it is today.

Providing For Our Family’s Future is the capital campaign that builds our present community through spiritual renewal, ensures our campus will be maintained at its current level of excellence and fulfills our commitment to the programs and scholarships of the Archdiocese. It is a vision for Holy Family that honors our past, gives thanks to the present, and embraces our future.

At all Masses next weekend, I will invite the parishioners of Holy Family Catholic Community to participate in the Providing For Our Family’s Future capital campaign. I will ask everyone to consider pledging, over five years, a gift that is sacrificially generous.  Please give prayerful consideration to this request.  Please know all gifts are deeply appreciated and needed, no gift is too small. It is only through the sacrificial generosity of every family at Holy Family that we can be truly successful.

The success of Providing For Our Family’s Future depends on the sacrificial generosity of all parishioners, not just a few. I invite every family at Holy Family to join in as we build our future together. Though we may not all be able to offer gifts of equal dollar amounts, we can each offer the Lord, and each other, gifts of equal sacrifice. We need every parish family to prayerfully consider how you can participate in this important effort.

How do you prepare for Commitment Weekend?

1) Read your campaign materials. They explain in full detail our Capital Campaign.

2) Pray with your family about a sacrificially generous gift over a five-year period.

3) Be prepared to complete a pledge card next weekend.

Sacrificial Giving. We Need Your Participation!

Hopefully, by now, you have received your campaign packet either via mail or a personal visit from a campaign representative. If you have not, please contact Ro Geisler or Sacha Lehto in the Parish Office. Now more than ever, we need everyone’s participation in the campaign to make the campaign a success. When considering your own sacrificial gift, please remember that sacrificial giving is a deliberate and prayerfully considered choice to dedicate our time, our talents, and our treasure in a way that is over and above our usual generosity. At Holy Family, sacrificial giving is a deliberate choice to take a step out in your faith to advance God’s work in our parish.

Sacrificial gifts are prayerful.

Gifts that are sacrificial are considered prayerfully and then made with the complete understanding that all that we have, including our financial resources, is only ours to steward for the praise and glory of God.  Are we making an intentional, prayerful, decision to financially support the parish from the perspective of a disciple called to serve God and others?

Sacrificial gifts are proportionate.

Considering a gift that is sacrificial requires that we simply be honest with ourselves…and with God.  How have we been blessed?  How do we rank building the kingdom of God among our financial priorities?  Does our giving truly reflect our ability to give?  Does our giving reflect trust in our God?

Sacrificial gifts are planned.

Planning a sacrificial gift enables us to give the first fruits of our labors rather than an amount that is left over after all our other obligations are met.  The planning process, itself, can be a prayerful exercise that focuses our attention on the values and the priorities that define our lives.  Planning a gift over time helps ensure that our giving is focused on God’s plans for us, and not our own.

Sacrificial giving is not easy.

Sacrificial giving is a commitment to give even when you might rather be doing something else with your time and your resources. May God grant us the grace to respond faithfully, generously, and sacrificially to His call to serve His purpose at Holy Family as we commit to the future of our parish.

October 26th/27th

A recent campaign initiated by the Archdiocese of Chicago, “To Teach Who Christ Is,” has found broad support by pastors to strengthen Catholic education throughout the Archdiocese. Monies raised through this effort are being used to invest in Catholic schools and religious education programs, such as improving catechesis, maintaining academic excellence, helping economically depressed parishes with educational critical needs, providing scholarships, and supporting the ongoing development and retention of teachers and administrators.

The portion of funds which support the Archdiocese can be viewed as a mission for the underprivileged of Chicago. As members of a greater Catholic Church, it’s an important responsibility for Holy Family to join every parish in the Archdiocese to participate in this unprecedented campaign. In summary, funds supporting the Archdiocese will be directed to these three areas:

1) Investing in the Next Generation – Catholic Education Scholarship Trust (CEST) & Academic Excellence

2) Passing on our Faith – Religious Education through Catechist Training and Innovation

3) Building for the Future – Facilities, including emergency capital repairs
