Robot Building Contest

Open to all campers and teen volunteers

This year’s Spirit Camp Theme lends itself to STEM projects. We invite all campers, helpers and teen

volunteers to build a robot. There will be two levels of complexity

  • Robots with moving parts – will be judged on creativity and function (grade 4 on up)
  • Robots without moving parts – will be judged on creativity and artistic merit (K-grade 4)

Cash prizes will be awarded the final day of Spirit Camp

Prizes for Artistic 
(no moving parts required)1st prize – $50.00 cash
2nd prize – $35.00 cash
3rd prize – $20.00 cash
4th prize – $10.00 cash
Robot Prizes for robots with moving part
(movement must function)1st prize – $100.00 cash
2nd prize – $75.00 cash
3rd prize – $50.00 cash
4th prize – $25.00 cash

Spirit Camp Robot building Contest Rules

  1. All entries must come from campers and volunteers – parent volunteers cannot enter robots from their own children/teens if those children/teens are not participating in Spirit Camp.
  2. All robots must be at Holy Family no later than Sunday, June 18 at noon – no late entries will be accepted
  3. Competitors are NOT allowed to use pre-bought kits
  4. All robots must use re-cycled materials (legos, Konnects and other toy building materials are allowed).
  5. Robots solve problems (even robots without moving parts). The competitors will be expected to tell the judges what problem their robot solves.
  6. Competitors are allowed to collaborate – teams will split prize money
  7. Parents are allowed to help and guide but NOT build the robot for their child/teen
  8. Non-moving robots must be named and the name must be displayed with the robot
  9. All robot builders must be present on Thursday, June 22 immediately following the Camp session (12:30 pm) to answer the questions of judges
  10. Robots with moving parts must function
  11. Winners will be announced and prizes given on Thursday evening, June 22 at the Family Praise and Ice Cream Social. Winners must be present.
