Habitat for Humanity |
Founded in 1976, Habitat for Humanity is a worldwide non-profit housing organization seeking to eliminate substandard housing by building decent affordable homes for families who cannot afford to purchase them through conventional means. Our association is with the Northern Fox Valley chapter.
How you can help:
- Construction volunteers – you do not need to be a tradesperson to be a construction volunteer. The basic ability to swing a hammer, carry some material, cut a piece of wood, etc. are basic skills you will need. You will be supervised by experienced people. If the task gets beyond your skill, there is always something that can be done. The day usually starts around 8:30am and ends at 3pm.
- Retired or experienced trades people to direct/instruct the work during the build. Ideally, we would get a carpenter for the initial build, someone familiar with aluminum siding near the end, etc.
In conjunction with 11 other churches in the Palatine area, work began in June. Holy Family has been assigned the following weekends to provide 5-6 volunteers:
July 12, 26; August 9, 23; Sept 13 , 27; Oct 11, 25; Nov 8, 22
We ask that you indicate your preferred date for volunteering and a second alternative. A schedule will be provided once we have received all of the responses. Directions and more information about the Spring of Life Habitat local chapter is on our website: www.springoflifehabitat.org (see link below). Contact Larry Buettner to volunteer.
