Bernie will mention the significant loss of his teenage son, Josh, through suicide, and he will describe his view of where God was throughout his struggles. Bernie will emphasize the deep power of hope.

This will be an educational session in which Bernie will describe statistics about suicide, assessment of risk factors, prevention of suicide, how to support those impacted by suicide and resources that can help in this situation of grave loss.

He is Executive Director of Chicago Voyagers, an organization that empowers at-risk youth through outdoor experiential adventures that foster healthy relationships and responsible behavior. Bernie developed his management and leadership skills while working for a significant time at Motorola as an engineer, man-ager and project manager. In 2006 he gave up that career to earn his Master’s in Community Counseling and focus on youth work.
